Can you communicate with your builder? Can you reach him whenever you need him?
Does he really care? Is he on the job every day personally?
Does he have the experience, knowledge and eye for detail to build the style of home you want?
Will your builder follow-up with you after the home is finished to be sure that you are happy? What if something needs attention after you've lived in the house six months or a year?
Has the builder actually worked in the trade?
Is he reliable and honest?
Does he listen to your needs?
Does he have a good, ongoing relationship with the bank? Is he financially stable?
What are his credentials?
Questions to Ask the References
Ask for references, then check them out -- if possible, visit the home(s). Here's what to ask:
Did the project run smoothly?
Did the project finish on time?
Were the cost estimates accurate?
Have you had any problems with the house since you've moved in? If so, how did the builder respond?
